South Korean authorities arrested four suspects for hacking over 120,000 internet-connected cameras to produce and sell illegal sexual videos. Police say the individuals worked separately, exploiting weak passwords on IP cameras used in homes and businesses. The compromised cameras were located in private residences, a Pilates studio, and a gynecologist’s clinic. One suspect hacked 63,000 cameras and created more than 500 videos, earning roughly $12,000 in virtual currency. Another compromised 70,000 cameras and sold nearly 650 videos for about $6,300. These two suspects produced most videos posted on an illegal website in the past year. Three additional people were arrested for purchasing or viewing the content. Authorities are working with international agencies to shut down the website and notify victims. (Story URL)
