UC Berkeley Student Gets 90 Days For Taking Chickens from Slaughterhouse

UC Berkeley student Zoe Rosenberg, 23, received a 90-day jail sentence for taking four chickens from a Petaluma slaughterhouse in 2023. The animal activist was convicted of felony conspiracy and three misdemeanors for the coordinated action at the Perdue-owned Petaluma Poultry facility. A jury found Rosenberg conspired with Direct Action Everywhere members to enter the plant illegally, remove live chickens, and steal business records. Rosenberg defended her actions, stating “I will not apologize for taking sick, neglected animals to get medical care.” She named the chickens Poppy, Ivy, Aster, and Azalea.
